About Tanoshi Scout

Tanoshi Scout helps you find something in Japan worth doing, and then work out how to actually get there. It starts with Tokyo.

Most travel content stops at the recommendation. You are told a place is wonderful, and then left to work out which of five stations with the same name you need, whether you can get a stroller through, and where the nearest toilet is. That last mile is the part this site is for.

Who makes it

Tanoshi Scout is made by Richard Souza. It is an independent project, not a travel agency and not affiliated with any tourism board, transport operator or venue listed here.

Photography and production run through Graphix Capture, the studio side of the same operation.

How the collection works

There are currently 15 places in the collection. That is deliberate: each one is checked against the venue’s own site or an official tourism source, and every record says which details were verified and which were not.

Facility information — changing tables, nursing rooms, step-free routes — is the hardest thing to verify remotely, and most of it is currently marked as unchecked rather than guessed. If a parent travels somewhere expecting a nursing room that is not there, a confident guess has done real harm. Unknown stays unknown until someone confirms it.
