Sensō-ji
浅草寺
Tokyo's oldest temple, approached through a 200-metre market street of snack and souvenir stalls.
Founded in the seventh century and rebuilt after wartime bombing. You enter through the Kaminarimon gate, walk Nakamise-dōri, then pass the Hōzōmon into the main hall courtyard. The grounds are open air and free to walk; the surrounding streets are among the best in the city for eating as you go.
